In 1783, brothers Joseph and Jacques Montgolfier revolutionized history by inventing the hot air balloon in France. Observing how hot air lifts smoke, they built a paper and silk balloon that made the first manned free flight over Paris. Today, balloons use propane burners for tourist and recreational flights.
