{"id":2410,"date":"2026-02-27T14:04:45","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T13:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globusemporda.com\/expediciones\/hot-air-balloon-expedition-through-the-amazon\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T21:36:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T20:36:38","slug":"hot-air-balloon-expedition-through-the-amazon","status":"publish","type":"expediciones","link":"https:\/\/globusemporda.com\/en\/expeditions\/hot-air-balloon-expedition-through-the-amazon\/","title":{"rendered":"Hot Air Balloon Expedition through the Amazon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Context and objective<\/h2>\n\n<p>The Turpial Expedition \u2013 Amazon was a pioneering adventure undertaken in January 2001 with the objective of flying over an area of \u200b\u200bthe Amazon rainforest in a hot air balloon that had not been previously explored from the air using this means.<\/p>\n\n<p>The purpose was ambitious: to achieve the maximum possible flight time and distance in an extreme environment, combining a spirit of exploration and technical rigor.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparation and planning<\/h2>\n\n<p>The project began to take shape in the 1990s and required approximately one year of specific preparation.<\/p>\n\n<p>We formed a team of 13 people passionate about ballooning and nature. We used three 77&#8217;s model balloons adapted to the harsh conditions of the jungle, with particularly complex logistics. <\/p>\n\n<p>The operational base was a riverboat that served as the central coordination point. In addition, we had support vessels and sufficient gas reserves to ensure the continuity of operations. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flight development<\/h2>\n\n<p>During the expedition we made 24 flights in very diverse conditions.<\/p>\n\n<p>The landings occurred in very different environments:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On river beaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deep in the jungle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even on the base ship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Each flight required meticulous planning, constant coordination with the support team, and the ability to adapt to a changing and demanding environment.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What this expedition gave me<\/h2>\n\n<p>The experience in the Amazon rainforest marked an important point in my career as a pilot.<\/p>\n\n<p>Operating in an environment without infrastructure, with river logistics and variable weather conditions, reinforces the importance of technical preparation, prudence and teamwork.<\/p>\n\n<p>Participating in this expedition with the Globus Kontiki team was an experience that combined exploration, technique and passion for flying, values \u200b\u200bthat I continue to apply in every operation.<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A pioneering expedition undertaken in January 2001 in the Amazon rainforest, with 24 flights operated from a river base and logistics adapted to an extreme environment.
